SKI GLOVES
Basics
With gloves you can differentiate between fingered gloves and mittens. While leather gloves were most widely spread in the past, functional high-tech materials like Gore-Tex and others take their turn today. People who are sensitive to cold should rather go for mittens, even though fingered gloves prove to be far more practical in most situations.

Material
When purchasing skiing equipment, gloves are usually the last item you think of – unfortunately! Especially high quality models contribute a lot to your comfort thanks to their elaborate material: fingers frozen stiff and aching ruin not only the fun about carving but also handicap you when trying to lift your glass at the après ski. However you can avoid this easily: Gore-Tex for instance is a breathable material made of synthetic fibres. Sewn between lining and upper layer of fabric it supports the escape of perspiration repelling humidity from outside at the same time. Sometimes the Gore-Tex layer is supported by Thinsulate fibres, which are hollow inside and keep you twice as warm as down. Also breathable Prima Loft lining retaining warmth can compete with the Gore-Tex and Prima Loft technology. The upper layer of fabric with high quality gloves has been specially impregnated and is therefore also water repellent. Additionally, models with multi layer system allow you to take out the inner glove and wear it separately, which is an advantage with strongly changing temperatures.
Security
Especially for free riders and unpractised skiers the risk of falling is high. Gloves with special security components contribute a great deal to the prevention of injuries. A detachable or tightly integrated plastic splint helps to avoid broken wrists, hands and backs of hands. What adds up to this are long cuffs that can be narrowed by dint of elastic strings so that snow cannot enter.
Resistance
Especially the area between thumb and index finger is exposed to exertions most, since it is strongly claimed when grasping. This is why high quality gloves are bolstered with leather on the inside of the hand. Abrasion-proof outer material and seamlessly set fingertips also belong to the features of resistant gloves.
